Writing the retest zone before the break
Why the return zone and invalidation line should exist on paper while price is still inside the range.
Most unfinished plans begin after the break, when adrenaline is already high. We reverse the order in training.
While price is still chopping inside the range, write three numbers: the break trigger, the zone where a constructive retest should print, and the line that cancels the idea. The zone is usually a band, not a single tick — former resistance often becomes a small shelf rather than an exact pixel.
Invalidation belongs on the same page. If the retest is supposed to hold above former resistance, the cancel line sits beneath the structure that would prove the break failed. Size is calculated only after those lines exist.
Traders who adopt this order report fewer mid-candle decisions. The work feels slower at first; that is the point of breakout and retest planning as we teach it.
